Success Stories

Preface- During the Kharif season, there was a dry condition in Balrampur district, but the farmer did not give up. This success story is of Chotan / Vishwanath, Chotan is a simple farmer who is a resident of Shankargarh Gram Panchayat Durgapur, District Panchayat Balrampur, who comes from the OBC class. There are a total of 7 members in his family, Chhotan's agriculture was rain-fed, the main means of his family's livelihood is agriculture and animal husbandry. The details of their land are as follows

Before intervention-  Chotan mainly used to cultivate paddy and were completely dependent on rainwater for cultivation, due to which they had to face a lot of difficulties in agricultural work, due to lack of rain on time, the crop was delayed and due to lack of water the production was very less, Due to which it was very difficult to run the house.

Steps to change- Chotan met team sgvs at Kisan PathshalaDiscussions were being held in Kishan Pathshala regarding organic agriculture and livelihood, due to which Chhotan told about his water problem and asked to build a pond on the land, the team selected a place in Chhotan's farm. After this, passing the resolution in the Gram Sabha, the file was submitted to the block office through ther Rojgaar shahayak . In March 2020, Pond was approved, by working in Pond, Chhotan's family earned Rs 9000 as wages.

Positive change-Three acres of land became irrigated after Chhotan's pond was made, due to which his agricultural work started on time. Chhotan no longer has to depend entirely on rain water for agricultural work, has started transplanting paddy from time to time, due to which there is a huge difference in production. Chhotan has been cultivating tur on the bund of Pond and also doing fish farming, which is earning him extra income, Chotan has produced 20 quintal paddy, 90kg tur, 35 kg fish in 2021-22, Chhotan told that this year despite the dry conditions, he has planted paddy in 3 acres and put 3 kg of fish seed in (FingerLings) pond.

Future plan- Chhotan ji is trying to get the solar panels installed on the pond, in which the team is cooperating with them, along with this, Chhotan is planning to cultivate vegetables by scaffolding method and plant fruit trees on the bund of the pond.
